What Will You Be Doing New Years Day?

As the Orange Bowl gets closer and closer, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to represent your fellow Hokies in their 3rd Orange Bowl appearance! The game will be played on the hallowed grounds of Dolphin Stadium and will pit the Hokies against the Cincinnati Bearcats, who hold a 11-2 record (6-1 in the Big East). Needless to say, this is going to be a tough game for the Hokies, but it isn’t impossible for the Hokies to score a win.

In their history, the Hokies retain a 4 – 4 record against the Bearcats since their first meeting in 1946. But with the Bearcats heading into the bowl with a 6 game winning streak, opposed to the Hokies’ 3 game streak, momentum is definitely on Cincinnati’s side on New Year’s Day. But this won’t keep these boys down–with a close loss to Kansas last year these Hokies (and Coach Beamer) are hungry for another chance to win!

In any event, if you’re unable to make it to Miami, be sure to tune into the game on New Years day at 8:30pm on FOX. And don’t forget to check out all the ACC Championship and Orange Bowl Gear available on CampusEmporium.com!

VT Wrestlers Place in Las Vegas Open

According to HokieSports.com, four Hokies placed in the competitive Las Vegas Open at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Nevada. The article reports:
“Freshman Jarrod Garnett lost to the top-seeded Rollie Peterkin from Penn in his first match of the day, 12-5, but rebounded to defeat third-seeded Marcus Orozco from Cal Davis, 6-4, to earn a trip to the consolations finals against second-seeded Anthony Robles from Arizona State. In the third-place match, Garnett fell to Robles 18-1, and took fourth place in the bracket.
At 141 lbs., sophomore Chris Diaz reeled off three straight victories, including a 5-4 victory over Chris Drouin from Arizona State, to secure a trip to the consolation finals. Diaz faced second-seeded Kellen Russell from Michigan and dropped a heartbreaker, 3-1, with Russell scoring a takedown in sudden victory for the win. Diaz finished fourth in the bracket.
Sophomore D.J. Bruce and freshman Pete Yates both placed for the Hokies, at 197 and 149 lbs., respectively. Bruce was pinned by Cam Simaz of Cornell in the first match of the day, but came back to earn a major decision over Matt Powless of Indiana, winning 17-4 and capturing seventh place. Yates was pinned by seventh-seeded Matt Kyler of Army at 3:54, to take eighth place in the bracket.”
Congratulations Jarrod, Chris, D.J. and Pete! You make the Hokies proud!
