Virginia Tech: The Basics

Founded in 1872, VT originally started as the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. Today, it is a progressive academic institution founded on a mission of teaching & learning, research & discovery, and outreach & engagement. The athletic teams at VT participate in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with numerous male and female varsity activities. In addition, VT features an extensive intramural program with over 20 recreational activities.
